Description
This enzyme-based, modern stool test for early screening of colorectal cancer was developed in Germany in 2004. (ScheBo Biotech AG.)
A single sampling is sufficient to perform the test. Since the test result is independent of any diet, no special diet is required before sampling and blood in the stool does not affect the result.
Contents of the test package:
1 sampling tube, 1 instruction leaflet, 1 self-addressed postage-paid envelope for sending the sample, 1 return form for patient details and consent (to be posted)
Please follow the instructions when using the test!
When is this test not applicable?
Dilute, diarrhoeic stools are not suitable for testing! In cases of inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease or any other diarrhoeal disease, the test may give a positive result. We do not recommend testing for these conditions.
What should you do if you have an elevated enzyme result (positive result)?
In this case, there is a significant chance that the person has a benign or, less likely, a malignant tumour in the colon or rectum. The inflammatory state of the intestines also gives a positive result. Benign tumours (polyps) also need to be diagnosed, because most of the time they turn into cancerous tumours over a period of years. With such a finding, it is absolutely necessary to visit your GP or doctor, because the cause of the elevated enzyme levels must be identified. In this case, a colonoscopy should be performed.
