Description

The RapiChek Vitamin D Rapid Test is a semi-quantitative test for the detection of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) in human fingerstick whole blood. This test gives a preliminary diagnostic test result and can be used to screen for vitamin D deficiency. The RapiChek HomeCare premium quality test kit is designed to detect the most common problems and infections in a professional environment or at home, in the comfort and discretion of your home.

Vitamin D deficiency is a global health problem caused mainly by insufficient exposure to sunlight. It is estimated that 1 billion people worldwide suffer from vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency, particularly among the elderly. [1] Vitamin D is a group of fat-soluble secosteroids responsible for enhancing the intestinal absorption of calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphate and zinc. In humans, the most important compounds in this group are vitamin D3 and vitamin D2. [2] Vitamin D3 is naturally produced in the human skin in response to ultraviolet light, while vitamin D2 is mainly derived from food. Vitamin D is transported to the liver, where it is metabolised into 25-hydroxyvitamin D. The consequences of vitamin D deficiency cannot be underestimated.

Vitamin D deficiency has been associated with a myriad of acute and chronic diseases, including pre-eclampsia, childhood dental caries, periodontitis, autoimmune diseases, infectious diseases, cardiovascular diseases, fatal cancers, type 2 diabetes and neurological disorders. [3] In medicine, the 25-hydroxyvitamin D blood test is used to determine the body’s vitamin D. Blood concentrations of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (including D2 and D3) are considered the best indicator of vitamin D status. Vitamin D deficiency is now recognised as a global epidemic[4].

USE THE TEST

1. Wash your hands with soap and rinse with clean warm water.
2. Allow the test kit to warm to room temperature before opening. Open the pouch, remove the test cassette and place it on a clean and level surface. Take the test within one hour, for best results take the test immediately after opening the sachet. Take out the capillary dropper, buffer, sterile lancet and alcohol wipe and place them near the test cassette.
3. Carefully pull off and discard the cap of the sterile spear.
4. Use the alcohol wipe provided to clean the puncture site on the middle or ring fingertip. Allow to air dry.
Press the spear on the side from which the cap has been removed, the tip will automatically and safely retract after use. Massage your hand without touching the puncture site, massaging your hand towards the fingertip of the middle or ring finger that was punctured.
6. Hold your hand down and massage your finger to get a drop of blood.
7. Without squeezing the capillary drip rubber, touch it to the blood. Allow the blood to flow through the capillary drip into the capillary drip to the black fill line marked on the capillary. If the blood does not reach the black line, you can massage your finger again to get more blood. Avoid air bubbles.
8. Drain all the collected blood into the sample well of the cassette (marked Sample) by squeezing the rubber of the dropper.
9. Wait until the blood has completely drained into the sample well. Unscrew the cap of the buffer holder, add 2 drops of buffer solution into the buffer slot of the cassette (marked Buffer) and start the timer.
10. Wait for the coloured line(s) to appear. Read the results in 10 minutes. Compare the intensity of the T-line with the “RapiChek Vitamin D Colour Chart” supplied with the kit to get your blood vitamin D level. Do not interpret the result after 20 minutes.

1. How does the RAPICHEK Vitamin D test work?
In medicine, 25-hydroxyvitamin D is the main form of vitamin D stored in the body. Therefore, the overall level of vitamin D is determined by the detection of 25-hydroxyvitamin D
you can do. A positive result of less than 30ng/ml 25-hydroxyvitamin D indicates vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency. In these cases, vitamin D supplements may be recommended.

2. When to use the test?
The clinical use of vitamin 25-hydroxyvitamin D is mainly for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of abscess disease, osteomalacia, postmenopausal osteoporosis and renal osteopathy. Vitamin D deficiency has also been linked to a number of other diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, autoimmune diseases, diabetes and depression. Check your vitamin D levels to decide if you need to take vitamin D supplements. The vitamin D rapid test can be used at any time of the day.

3. Could the result be wrong?
The results are accurate if the instructions are carefully followed. However, the result may be incorrect if the RapiChek rapid vitamin D test cassette is used to perform the test.
or if the amount of blood added to the sample tube is insufficient, or if the amount of buffer solution is less than 2 or more than 3 drops. The result will not be correct. The capillary dropper in the box allows you to make sure that the amount of blood drawn is correct. In addition, due to immunological principles, there is a chance of false results in rare cases. Consultation with a doctor is always recommended for tests based on these immunological principles.

4. How should the test be interpreted if the colour and intensity of the lines are different?
Please refer to the diagram and compare the intensity of the T line with the “RAPICHEK Vitamin D Colour Chart” provided with the kit.

5. If I read the result after 20 minutes, will the result be reliable?
No. The result should be read 10 minutes after the buffer is added. The result is no longer reliable after 20 minutes.

6. What should I do if the result indicates a shortage or low level?
If the result is a deficiency or a low level, it means that the level of vitamin D in the blood is less than 30ng/ml and a doctor should be consulted to present the test result. The doctor will then decide whether further tests are needed.

7. What should I do if the result is correct?
If the result is correct, it means that the level of vitamin D is above or equal to 30ng/ml and within the normal range. Vitamin D toxicity (hypercalcaemia), although rare, cannot be excluded on the basis of these test results. However, if symptoms persist, it is recommended that you seek medical advice.
